Bio

Dr. Matteo Castaldo, PT, PhD, is an Italian physiotherapist, researcher, and educator internationally recognized for his expertise in the assessment and management of headaches, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal disorders. He combines clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching, with a particular focus on headache disorders, myofascial pain, central sensitization, and pain neuroscience.

Dr. Castaldo graduated in Physiotherapy from the University of Parma (Italy) and later earned a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Aalborg University (Denmark). He also completed a Master of Science in Applied Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Milan, further strengthening his interdisciplinary approach to pain and neurological conditions.

Throughout his career, he has pursued extensive postgraduate training in manual therapy, headache management, pain science, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. His clinical and academic interests have led him to collaborate with leading international experts and research groups across Europe.

Dr. Castaldo serves as a researcher at Aalborg University’s Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) and has held teaching positions at the University of Parma and the University of Siena, where he contributes to the education of physiotherapists and healthcare professionals. He is also the owner and clinical director of Fisiocenter, a specialized rehabilitation clinic in Parma, Italy.

As a scientist, Dr. Castaldo has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on headache disorders, neck pain, central sensitization, and chronic pain mechanisms. His research has contributed significantly to the understanding of the relationship between musculoskeletal dysfunctions and primary headache disorders, helping to advance evidence-based physiotherapy practice.

An experienced international speaker, he has taught more than 100 professional courses and delivered presentations at numerous national and international conferences. His educational activities focus on headache management, trigger points, cervical spine disorders, pain education, and manual therapy.
