Bio

Dr. Matteo Castaldo, PT, MSc, PhD, is an Italian physiotherapist, researcher, and lecturer internationally recognized for his expertise in the assessment and management of headache, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal disorders. He combines clinical practice, scientific research, and teaching, with a particular interest in headache, myofascial pain, central sensitization, and pain neuroscience.

Dr. Castaldo graduated in Physiotherapy from the University of Parma (Italy) and subsequently obtained a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Aalborg University (Denmark). He also completed a Master’s degree in Applied Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Milan, further strengthening his interdisciplinary approach to pain and neurological conditions.

Throughout his professional career, he has completed extensive postgraduate training in manual therapy, headache management, pain science, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. His clinical and academic interests have enabled him to collaborate with leading international experts and research groups across Europe.

Dr. Castaldo works as a researcher at the University of Parma (Italy) and holds teaching positions at the University of Siena and the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He also collaborates with various private clinics in the clinical management of patients with headache and chronic pain.

As a scientist, Dr. Castaldo is the author of 65 peer-reviewed publications (source: Web of Science) on headache, neck pain, central sensitization, and chronic pain mechanisms. His research has made a significant contribution to improving the understanding of the relationship between musculoskeletal dysfunctions and primary headaches, supporting the development of evidence-based physiotherapy.

With extensive experience as an international speaker, he has delivered more than 100 professional courses and has participated as a lecturer at numerous national and international conferences. His teaching focuses on headache management, myofascial trigger points, cervical spine disorders, pain education, and manual therapy.
